Halliday, DJ

Douglas John Halliday Attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1967-1969. Born in 1949, he joined the Canadian Forces and was serving on exchange with the Canadian Defence Liaison Staff in Washington when he was killed in an aircraft accident at Edwards Air Force Base, California, on 3 March 1981.

Arthur Graham Herman attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1948 to 1949. Born in 1928, he was serving the army when he was killed at Majon-ni, Korea on 19 August 1952.

Hessin, JD

James David Hessin attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1954-1956. Born in 1935, he was commissioned in the Lord Strathcona Horse division of the army. He was training as a pilot at the Canadian Joint Air Training Centre when he was killed on 11 August, 1960.

The upper Japanese garden at Hatley Park was designed by Japanese landscape architect Isaburo Kishida. The garden was installed in 1909 and developed by Tadashi Noda from 1913-1927.

William Herbert Johnston attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1951-1953. Born in 1932, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in PEI when he was killed in a F-86 crash on 15 January, 1957.

Kaersvang, PE

Preben Ejgil Kaersvang attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1962-1964. Born in 1943, he joined the 32 Utility squadron of the Royal Canadian Navy, division VS880, a fixed wing operational squadron of 12 pilots. As a naval pilot, he was killed in a training exercise at CFB Downsview, ON on 2 February 1968.

George Alan MacLachlan attended Royal Roads September to December in 1941, in the third class of RCNVR Special Entry cadets. The first five classes were also known informally as ‘90 Day wonders’, as their wartime training at HMCS Royal Roads was just over 3 months. Born 31 January, 1922, MacLachlan was serving on HMCS Valleyfield when she was sunk by a U-boat on 7 May 1944.

Christopher Allen Mariner attended Royal Roads Military College from 1981-1985 . Born in 1962, he joined the army and was serving with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) when he died in a tank accident on October 8, 1999.
