Shields, WE

Walter Edward Shields attended Royal Roads January to April in 1941, in the first class of RCNVR Special Entry cadets. The first five classes were also known informally as ‘90 Day wonders’, as their wartime training at HMCS Royal Roads was just over 3 months. Born 21 April, 1917, Shields was training to become a lawyer before joining the RCNVR. On completion of training, he joined HMCS Windflower, which was sunk on 7 December, 1941. Shields was one of 23 men who lost their lives in the incident.

MacLachlan, GA

George Alan MacLachlan attended Royal Roads September to December in 1941, in the third class of RCNVR Special Entry cadets. The first five classes were also known informally as ‘90 Day wonders’, as their wartime training at HMCS Royal Roads was just over 3 months. Born 31 January, 1922, MacLachlan was serving on HMCS Valleyfield when she was sunk by a U-boat on 7 May 1944.

Kostiuk, RW

Robert William Kostiuk attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1949-1951. Born in 1929, he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed with 444 Fighter Squadron at Baden-Soellingen, Germany, and was killed on 12 June, 1955 when his F-86 Sabre aircraft rolled while turning on a final approach to land.

Rayment, GR

George Ross Rayment attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1951-1953. Born in 1932, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was serving with the 423 All Weather Fighter Squadron in Grostenquin, France when he was killed in a mid-air collision between two CF-100s on 25 August 1958.

Burnie, RG

Robert George Burnie attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1952-1954. Born in 1934, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed in Bagotville, QB when he died during a training flight on 16 October, 1963.

Arnott, BR

Bruce Ross Arnott attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1959-1961. Born in 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was at the No. 2 Flying Training School in Moose Jaw, SK, when he was killed in a training accident on 20 March 1972.

Carson, EJP

Egbert John Preston Carson attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1960-1962. Born in 1941, he joined the Royal 22e Regiment of the army. He taking part in the Parachute Club of Canada training exercises when he was killed in an accident at Crescent Lake, near Pembroke, ON on 22 May 1965.

Kaersvang, PE

Preben Ejgil Kaersvang attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1962-1964. Born in 1943, he joined the 32 Utility squadron of the Royal Canadian Navy, division VS880, a fixed wing operational squadron of 12 pilots. As a naval pilot, he was killed in a training exercise at CFB Downsview, ON on 2 February 1968.

William Douglas Card attended Canadian Services College Royal Roads from 1965-1967. Born in 1947, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was serving with the 417 Strike/Reconnaissance Operational Training Squadron when he was killed on a training mission near Cold Lake, AB on 17 November 1977.

Lamont, RL

Robert Lee Lamont attended Royal Roads Military College from 1975-1977. Born in 1958, he joined the Air Force and was training at CFB Moose Jaw when he lost his life in a crash during a routine solo mission near Coderre, SK on 16 April, 1980.

Casey, JR

Jennifer Rose Casey attended Royal Roads University in 2016 and earned a Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies. Born in 1985, she was serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force, 431 Air demonstration squadron when she was killed in a crash of a Snowbirds CT-114 tutor jet in Kamloops, BC on 17 May, 2020.
